Phishing (pronounced as 'fishing') is an email purporting to be from a bank or other financial institution asking to re-activate their on-line bank account or update their contact details by entering your user name and password. Successful Phishing will usually lead to identity theft - the using of that information to fraudulently establish credit, run up debt, or take over existing financial accounts. Criminals will send out thousands of emails to people who may not even have an account with the bank mentioned, in the hope that someone will respond to it.
