8 Digital Hygiene Habits

Do these things regularly to stay healthy online!

Strong Passwords
Use a long password with letters, numbers and symbols. Never share it with friends!
Use a phrase like "ILovePizza$2026"
Log Out Always
When you finish using a device or app - especially at school - always log out.
Especially on shared computers!
Update Apps
When your phone or tablet asks you to update an app, say yes! Updates fix security problems.
Enable automatic updates
Delete Old Apps
Apps you don't use anymore can be a risk. If you haven't opened it in a month, delete it!
Do a monthly app check
Privacy Settings
Ask a parent to help you check that your accounts are set to private so strangers can't see you.
Check settings every few months
Think Before You Post
Once something is online, it can be very hard to take back. Would you be happy if everyone saw it?
The 24-hour rule - wait before posting
Screen Breaks
Give your eyes a rest! Follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
Set a 20-minute timer
Tell Someone
If anything online scares or upsets you - a weird message, a mean person - always tell a grown-up.
Never keep it secret - get help

Balance Is the Key

Too much screen time can make your eyes tired, hurt your sleep, and make it harder to focus. But it's not just about TIME - it's about what you DO with your screen time.

Educational content, creative apps, video calls with family - all better than hours of mindless scrolling.

Set time limits
Agree with your parents on daily screen time and stick to it - use a timer to help.
No screens before bed
Stop using screens at least 1 hour before bedtime. Blue light makes it hard to fall asleep.
Screens away at meals
Meal times are for talking with family. Keep phones off the table.
Homework first
Always finish homework before screen time - then you can enjoy it without stress.
Get outside!
Balance screen time with outdoor play, sports and activities that are good for your body and mind.
